John 3 – Unbelief

The Lord Jesus teaches us that unbelief itself is a sin. Not only do we lose the chance to be saved by refusing to believe in God’s son, but we show that our hearts are truly evil. Though God doesn’t ask us to have ‘blind faith’, yet for those that seek there is no valid reason to stay away from Christ, who is the beautiful Light of the world. His words and deeds are perfect and carry such weight and glory. But just like a man refusing the help of a wise doctor, so unbelief doubles man’s wretched condition, because not only do they practice sin, but men refuse to come the light and find the solution to their sins. All men are accountable. No matter how good someone looks on the outside, if they refuse to seek God and finally believe in Christ upon hearing his words, then truly deep inside they do not love God, but hate him, and are evil. On judgment day all will see that God’s condemnation is right and just. This is a warning from the Lord not to stay in willful unbelief.

John 3:19 – “And this is the judgment: the light has come into the world, and people loved the darkness rather than the light because their works were evil.”
