John 6 – The Sovereignty of God

God’s Sovereignty means that He is in control, like a king over his kingdom. This is even true in salvation. Ultimately it is God who chooses who will be saved, and this is based on free grace alone. God must give lost men the power to come to Christ or they will never come! All men are totally corrupt and sinful in their hearts and left to themselves they will reject Christ like the Jews in this chapter. Yet, when God begins graciously working in one’s heart, the force is so compelling that the person must come. They are irresistibly drawn to Jesus. Man’s choice is real and necessary, but secretly will follow God’s choice that took place before the foundation of the world. May all be humbled and worship the God of grace! This doctrine is often called Calvinism, or ‘the doctrines of grace’, and is a teaching India and Assam sorely needs. God is no little god bowing to the wills of men. Man is no pure creature, able to choose good. We need grace!

John 6:44 – “No one can come to me unless the Father who sent me draws him. And I will raise him up on the last day.
